Prestigious authors Amy Tan and Chang-Rae Lee joined the three-day celebration of the first Philippine Literary Festival held at Raffles Makati.
PLF2014 covered a wide range of genres of Filipino literature, with several prominent and arising authors from the country and international best-selling authors.
The first and second days were loaded with lots of activities. Authors shared their experiences and words of wisdom to fellow book lovers both young and old.
On the second day, readers were able to catch a glimpse of and interact with the respected author Amy Tan who wrote the New York Times bestseller The Joy Luck Club. She was also noted on her novels The Kitchen God’s Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, The Bonesetter’s Daughter and Saving Fish from Drowning.
On the other hand, Chang-Rae Lee’s author on spotlight and book signing events, together with Amy Tan’s book signing event will be held today.
Chang-Rae Lee was the author of Native Speaker, which earned numerous awards including the Ernest Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award and the American Book Award. He was also the author of The Surrendered, A Gesture Life and Aloft.
Each event had its own agenda, avid fans, and aspiring writers of certain genres which made it easier for attendees to pinpoint exactly which event to attend.
Book signings, selling, and launches for talk show host Boy Abunda, “Komiks Rock Star” Manix Abrera, and marvelous Eric Gamalinda were held.
Perks for attendees include having the books signed and purchasing the newly-launched books before it was even released nationally.
However, the book signing and photo-ops with the international authors were strict. The book signing events were limited to 1,000 people (per event) and were reinforced with a first come, first served basis. A book signing pass, which you will get upon purchasing book at the event, is also required.
In addition, the photo op event with Tan was stricter than Lee’s; there was a designated photographer and photos will be posted on the official National Book Store Facebook page.
Raffles Makati hosted the PLF2014 in partnership with NBS and the admission is free. The event was held from October 23 to 25.
Panel discussions were led by distinguished authors, professors, and personalities from ABS-CBN Publishing Incorporated, Anvil Publishing, Ateneo De Manila University Press, Precious Pages, Summit Media, University of the Philippines Press, University of Santo Tomas Publishing House, and Visprint Incorporated.
