ALICIA, ISABELA—A baranggay’s peaceful nights were disturbed and terrorized by a strong thundering rainstorm and something else that is very unusual.
A disturbing incident happened in Brgy. Burgos when a strong thunderstorm brought terror to its inhabitants, after it stopped. Four separate robbing incidents happened in the area but one of it stood out the most—a perpetrator inviting its target to have sex.
The victim, who refused to be named, recalled what happened that night, “The man shone his flashlight on my eyes to wake me. At first, I did not bother because I thought that it was just my father joking but the flickering light continued. When I opened my eyes I did not notice him right away because it was dark, but then I heard his voice and saw his silhouette standing outside my window. The man spoke again but I did not understand, so I asked him to repeat what he said. He did and said it twice. The second time he said it, it fully woke me up because what I heard was ‘Let’s have sex’. I immediately shouted ‘Papa’, and then the man ran.”
The next day, her father traced his daughter’s accounts. He noticed footprints and the possible way the perpetrator got inside the compound. He then reported it to their baranggay captain and to other baranggay patrollers, they immediately responded to it and reminded the victim to always close her curtains and make sure that their compound’s main gate is closed.
Recently after the first case, similar incidents happened but it was even worse because this time, the perpetrator put his hand on the woman’s genital while asking her for sex. The victim’s family reported it to their baranggay office.
According to Brgy. Capt. Victon Bumatay, when the two victims were asked if they can remember the face of their perpetrator, both cannot give the exact appearance of the man but they believed that he was on his forties, has facial hair, an estimated height of 5’6, has dark complexion, shirtless, and his footprints were big.
In response to this, Mr. Bumatay called for a meeting to make sure that they will tighten the security on the area, and scattered and mandated patrollers to monitor every corner of the baranggay from time to time during their patrol schedule. They believed the perpetrators work on groups and possibly not a resident of the baranggay.
NOTE: Brgy. Captain Victon Bumatay is the uncle of the reporter and was interviewed through phone call. The first victim was interviewed via text messages.
