It has been 13 years since the 9/11 attacks, and it is still embedded in our minds. September 11, 2001 was the day thousands of people lost their lives; allegedly because of America's support for Israel, its involvement in the Persian Gulf War, and its continued military presence in the Middle East. The attackers were reportedly members of the Islamist Extremist group Al-Qaeda of Osama bin Laden. They carried out the suicide mission by hijacking four planes. Two of these planes were crashed into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, another one hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and another one crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
When I think about it, I can't help but feel deeply saddened. Thousands of innocent lives were taken. It makes you think: Was it all worth it in the end?
Even in our current time, there are wars where countrymen fight each other. Sometimes it makes you think if things cannot be settled with civility. It's not that simple, I know. But isn't it terrifying to think that the very people our ancestors were fighting for are now killing each other?
